Waterfront Development - Doing things right? I attended a presentation last Friday where an overview of the T.O. waterfront was discussed. It is great to see how the waterfront will be redesigned. Side note - I’m hoping that Rob Ford’s ferris wheel is never discussed again. Toronto is working hard to ensure that things are done properly. The revitalization of the waterfront is focusing on the revitalization of parks and public spaces and the promotion of pedestrian areas. Bye Bye Toronto Star... Are you really surprised when I post updates about prime pieces of real estate being purchased and re-developed? The great thing about this sale is that the addition of condominiums and commercial space will bring much needed life to the waterfront. The redevelopment and revitalization of the strip along Queens Quay/Lakeshore east of Yonge is in dire need of a facelift. Minto is building 1205 bike spaces in Yorkville! Oh yeah, and a couple of condo towers too. This is an interesting piece of land that Minto is proposing to building on. Given the proximity to the subway line, they can’t build parking underground and the building application calls for 1,166 condos, 1205 bike spaces and 1272 parking spaces. The site at 37 Yorkville and 50 Cumberland will feature a 55 and 69 storey condo tower on an 11 storey podium. There will be first and second floor commercial space and 7 level (yes, 7 levels) of above ground Toronto Parking Authority parking spaces. Developing an entire city block in the St. Lawrence Market? This massive 1663 unit project will undoubtedly come under fire from the neighbourhood association. Rarely does a developer get an entire city block to develop, but this is one of the rare exceptions. You have to wonder how a structure like this will fit into a neighbourhood of 10-17 storey buildings without some degree of awkwardness. I know there are a lot of people who are excited about the completion of this project. Having personally helped a dozen (primarily end users) buy into this building 4.5 years ago, they are ecstatic about the prospect of finally moving into their new home in this fantastic neighbourhood. Waterfront options at York Harbour Club I stopped into PlazaCorp's "York Harbour Club" this past week to get an update on activity and price per square foot. For those of you unfamiliar with all that is happening at the northwest corner of Lakeshore and Bathurst, this is another addition to the pocket that offers access to the Martin Goodman trail, Fort York, the waterfront, King West and highway access from the projects "front door".
